Job description

Research Assistant or Associate in Data-Driven Modelling of Fuel Cell Dynamics

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join an Airbus- and Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI)-funded project to develop data-driven modelling methods for next-generation hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft.

This post is one of three postdoctoral positions within the wider Airbus-ATI project developing computational and experimental methods to build interpretable models of the complex, nonlinear dynamic behaviour of fuel cells. These models will provide an in-depth understanding of fuel cell behaviour under different operating conditions, helping to improve design, control, performance, and reliability.

What you would be doing

You will focus on developingnonlinear dynamic modelsof fuel cell electrochemistry and on identifyinginterpretable reduced-order modelsfor fuel cell control using theSparse Identification of Nonlinear Dynamics (SINDy)algorithm applied tonumerical and experimental data. You will work closely with theChemistry group of Prof Anthony Kucernak and theMechanical Engineering group of Dr Ludovic Renson .

What we are looking for

You should have a strong background in fuel cell systems and thenumerical modelling of electrochemical systems, together with experience inmachine learning anddata-driven modelling.

Research Associate: Hold a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience

Research Assistant: A first / masters degree (or equivalent) in Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant.

What we can offer you

  • The opportunity to join a large research team across three departments at Imperial.
  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to continue science for humanity.
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes).
