Job summary

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is recruiting a Research Assistant in Tropical Disease Biology to join our team in Liverpool. The role focuses on assembling and screening a large environmental microbial isolate library and discovering novel antimicrobial compounds.

This fixed-term post supports iiCON and related projects. The successful candidate will have an MRes or equivalent in microbiology, hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques and microbial genetics, and the ability to

Qualifications

• MRes or equivalent in microbiology or equivalent.
• Knowledge of wet lab training in bacteriology.
• Knowledge of up-to-date molecular biology techniques.
• A thorough understanding of microbial genetics.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain laboratory records of methods, samples and results.
• Carry out day-to-day microbiology activities within the project portfolio.
• Contribute to SOPs and risk assessments.
• Maintain a safe and well-supplied laboratory space.
• Organise stocks of reagents and microbial isolates.
• Assist supervising students and visitors to the lab.
• Plan resources for smooth running of the laboratory.
