About Us

Axion Solutions is an evidence‑led consultancy delivering research, analysis, and project delivery across the environment, sustainability, and public policy sectors. Our team works with government departments, research bodies, and local authorities to deliver high‑impact studies—ranging from environmental mapping and biodiversity assessments to citizen science engagement, climate action planning, and social research.

We are a growing, multidisciplinary team committed to collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

About the Role

We are seeking skilled and motivated Research Assistants to join our associate network on a contract‑by‑contract basis. This role is ideal for early‑career researchers, postgraduates, or professionals with strong analytical and writing skills who are looking to gain hands‑on experience across a range of applied research and consultancy projects.

As a Research Assistant, you will support the delivery of individual projects, which may include:

  • Literature reviews and data analysis
  • Preparation of technical reports and evidence summaries
  • GIS or spatial data handling (if applicable to your skillset)
  • Stakeholder engagement support (e.g., workshop notes, survey analysis)
  • Administrative and coordination support for fieldwork or events

Each appointment will be on a per‑project contract basis, typically lasting from a few weeks to several months, depending on the assignment.

What We’re Looking For

Desirable:

  • Degree (or postgraduate qualification) in environmental science, geography, sustainability, public policy, or a related discipline
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and communicate clearly within a distributed team
  • Experience with GIS, statistical analysis, or qualitative research
  • Understanding of UK public sector, environmental, or policy contexts
  • Previous experience in consultancy, research, or government‑funded projects
What We Offer
  • Flexible, remote working arrangements
  • Competitive day rates based on experience and project scope
  • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful, evidence‑based work for UK government and public sector clients
  • Mentorship and professional development through collaboration with experienced consultants
  • Potential for repeat and ongoing project engagements
