Job summary

The Pirbright Institute is seeking an Animal Technician to join our Animal Services department. The role involves day-to-day care and welfare of experimental animals, handling and sample collection, and ensuring compliance with ASPA and related regulations.

Salary starts at £33,000 a year, with £36,000+ for PIL holders, and a 42-hour week. Permanent, full-time position with a 16 September 2026 closing date.

Qualifications

• 5 GCSEs or equivalent.
• Home Office Personal Licence (PIL Cat A&B) required.
• Experience in animal care and working in a research environment.
• Good English verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work to shift patterns including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for day-to-day care, welfare and general husbandry of experimental animals.
• Handle and restrain animal species for sampling and welfare procedures.
• Carry out culling of animal species following training and assessment.
• Maintain meticulous records and document control.
