Job description

Location: Ormskirk, West Lancashire.

Salary: Up to £32,000 per annum, dependent on experience.

THE ROLE

This position is within the Thin Film Technology Resource Group, part of the global R&D function. This group is responsible for developing new coated products and processes to support the NSG Groups goal of expanding its value-added business and providing technical support to commercial and manufacturing teams.

The successful candidate will join a team investigating new coatings applied through chemical vapour deposition. They will work on various projects, ranging from short-term incremental developments to longer-term, broader research initiatives. Responsibilities will focus on the operation and maintenance of laboratory coating and ancillary equipment, depositing thin films on glass and preparation of substrates. Additional activities would include conducting durability tests and measuring coated glass properties such as optical characteristics, electrical properties, and film thickness as required.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
  • An Innovative, self-motivated team player with a genuine interest in engineering, science and technology.
  • Experience and confidence in handling chemicals.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
  • Enjoys hands on involvement in problem solving activities both in a lab and in production facilities.
  • Grade 4 - 9 / A - C GCSE/A Level results in maths and science.
  • A BTEC or HNC qualification in a science or engineering subject and experience in the maintenance and operation of complex equipment would be a distinct advantage.
  • Prior knowledge and/or experience of high-vacuum systems and processes would be an advantage although full training will be provided.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Applications.
