Job description

Hypervision Surgical (“Hypervision”) is a spin‑out from King’s College London, founded by clinicians and experts in medical imaging and artificial intelligence. Using safe light alone, our mission is to equip surgeons with real‑time, AI‑driven tissue intelligence to improve precision and patient safety.

We are pioneering the world’s first regulatory‑cleared real‑time intraoperative spectral imaging platform, combining on‑chip spectral sensing with high‑speed AI analytics at over 60 frames per second. Seamlessly integrating into existing surgical vision systems, our technology transforms standard cameras into intelligent, data‑rich tools — revealing anatomical, physiological, and pathological information beyond human vision.

Certified for both open and minimally invasive surgery, our platform achieved UKCA certification and FDA clearance in 2025 under a newly established AI/ML product code, and was admitted into the FDA’s Safer Technology Program. With multi‑centre clinical evaluations underway and strategic partnerships with world‑leading technology and surgical manufacturers, including imec and ZEISS Ventures, Hypervision is shaping the future of data‑driven surgery.

About the role

We are seeking a curious, creative and motivated individual who is excited to join an innovation‑driven, early‑stage MedTech spin‑out for a period of 3‑6 months. We welcome a wide range of experiences where projects will be allocated based on background and interests.

Potential topics include:

  • Development of next‑generation algorithms for hyperspectral imaging data
  • Development of real‑time, low‑latency image processing tools for image analysis, storage and visualisation of hyperspectral video streams during surgery
  • Design, implementation, and validation of our intraoperative imaging system
  • Design and execution of validation tests for our intraoperative hyperspectral imaging system using realistic phantom models, ex‑vivo and in‑vivo experiments.
A bit about you

You would typically be enrolled in or graduated from a STEM‑related degree programme including computer science, mathematics, physics, software engineering, robotics, or biomedical engineering.

Relevant expertise and interests: Machine learning, medical image computing, computer vision, image processing, video compression, data analytics, software development (Python, C/C++), scientific packages (PyTorch, OpenCV, Pandas, SciPy,Numpy), operating systems and cybersecurity (Linux), biophotonics, optical imaging systems, system integration, phantom development, oximetry.

What we offer
  • Employee Assistance Programme for wellbeing, legal, and financial support
  • Complimentary office snacks and drinks
  • Monthly team socials in an inclusive, collaborative culture
  • Access to state‑of‑the‑art surgical development facilities at St Thomas’ MedTech Hub, including hospitals, operating rooms, labs, and computational resources, with offices located at the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering
  • The opportunity to make a direct contribution to patient care and deliver real‑world surgical impact

AtHypervisionSurgical, we are committed to promoting equal opportunities in employment and creating a workplace culture in which diversity and inclusion is valued and everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
