Location : London, UK

Contract : 12 months

The Role

We’re looking for a hands‑on, system‑level R&D Engineer to work on next‑generation diagnostic instruments. This is a high‑impact contract role where you’ll solve complex electro‑mechanical and fluidic challenges, develop prototypes, and optimise experiments in a cross‑disciplinary environment.

You’ll work closely with software engineers, IC designers, process engineers, and scientists to deliver innovative solutions that directly influence the performance and reliability of diagnostic platforms.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, build, and test electro‑mechanical systems, components, and prototypes
  • Plan, execute, and analyse experiments to optimise fluidic, thermal, and mechanical system performance
  • Record, document, and communicate results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate closely with software, IC design, and process engineering teams
  • Support the development of proof‑of‑concept and commercial prototypes
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years’ experience in R&D engineering for electro‑mechanical or fluidic systems
  • Hands‑on experience with microfluidics, fluid‑handling, pneumatics, or thermal control
  • Strong CAD / CAE skills (SolidWorks, FEA, CFD or similar)
  • Experience with rapid prototyping (3D printing, CNC, laser cutting, plastics bonding, etc.)
  • Proven ability to analyse experimental data and translate insights into design improvements
  • Comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams in a collaborative, problem‑solving environment
  • Exposure to regulated industries (ISO 13485, FDA, or equivalent) is a plus
Why This Role
  • Work on cutting‑edge diagnostic instrumentation
  • Solve technically challenging, system‑level problems
  • Hands‑on, experimental, and iterative design work
  • Contract role offering flexibility and exposure to international teams
