The salary range shown reflects the approved grade band for this role, or a narrower hiring range published within that band, and is benchmarked against the external market. Exceptions above the standard range are managed through governance controls to protect internal equity.

Your Impact

As a Senior or Principal Systems Engineer within the MIMAS Transition Phase Engineering Team, you will play a pivotal role in defining and maintaining the requirements that shape future Electro-Optic (EO) systems. Your work will ensure that stakeholder needs are accurately analysed and translated into high-quality system and subsystem requirements that provide a robust foundation for system design, integration, verification and validation.

By establishing a structured and traceable requirements baseline, you will help ensure that engineering decisions are based on clear needs and that solutions can be delivered with confidence throughout the system lifecycle.

What You'll Do
  • Analyse and manage stakeholder requirements, ensuring they are clearly understood, traceable and aligned to programme objectives.
  • Develop and maintain EO system and subsystem requirements and requirements sets throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Use requirements management tools, such as DOORS, to maintain requirements baselines, traceability, and change control.
  • Support the development of functional architectures and ensure requirements are appropriately allocated to system elements.
  • Support interface definition and management activities, ensuring interfaces are clearly specified and traceable.
  • Support verification and validation (V&V) planning and activities through the development of clear, testable requirements.
  • Develop and manage non-functional requirements, including areas such as safety, security, manufacturability, and supportability.
  • Communicate recommendations, progress, dependencies, and risks effectively to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure requirements remain aligned with system design and programme needs.
  • Scope, define and plan requirements activities and documentation where required, including Requirements Management Plans and associated governance artefacts.
What You'll Bring
  • Experience in requirements management and requirements engineering within a complex engineering environment.
  • Experience analysing and managing stakeholder requirements.
  • Experience developing system and subsystem requirements.
  • A strong understanding of good requirements practice, including quality, traceability, verification, and change management.
  • Experience using requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or equivalent.
  • Understanding of the relationship between requirements, functional architecture, interfaces, and verification and validation activities.
  • Experience developing non-functional requirements, such as safety, security, manufacturing, or supportability requirements.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • A proactive approach, with the ability to take ownership of technical work and deliver outcomes collaboratively.
What else would help
  • Experience leading or coordinating requirements activities across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience scoping and defining requirements work, such as producing Requirements Management Plans or similar governance documentation.
  • Broader systems engineering experience across the engineering lifecycle.
  • Experience working within Electro-Optic (EO) or other complex sensing systems domains.
