Job summary

Depop is hiring a Data Engineer to work on the Data Platform, focusing on Kafka streaming, the bronze data lake, and event tracking to power the next generation of data tools across the business. You will partner with Data Infrastructure and Analytics Engineering on bronze-to-silver workflows, with ML and Insights teams relying on low-latency streaming data.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating production data pipelines (Kafka or similar).
• Knowledge of Scala, Kotlin or Python and willingness to use all three.
• Familiarity with data warehousing concepts (bronze/silver/gold) and data quality.
• Comfort with Kafka Connect, schema registries and distributed systems concepts.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain services in the streaming pipeline (kafka-forwarder, changelogs-processor).
• Extend bronze streaming layer across the data catalog and production rollout.
• Implement data contracts and freshness checks for streaming datasets and alerting.
• Participate in on-call and onboarding of new events; troubleshoot streaming issues.
• Write documentation and contribute to design discussions on latency, completeness, and cost.
