Job summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking a Utilities CAD Technician for the Lower Thames Crossing project in Essex. You will produce precise 2D/3D utility plans from survey data and manage the LTC Utilities Master Model as the project’s single source of truth.

Responsibilities include interpolating trial holes, aligning data with topographical surveys, and generating permits drawings. You’ll work with MEP teams, coordinate interfaces, and help train junior designers in a collaborative, safety-focused

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a CAD Technician within Utilities, Civil Engineering, or Surveying.
• Experience in 3D modeling and 2D drafting specifically for underground services.
• Understanding of CAD Packages and standards.
• Advanced skills in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation and ProjectWise CONNECT (AECOsim a bonus).
• Experience editing/loading to databases is advantageous.
• Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite and awareness of PAS 128:2022.

Responsibilities

• Produce high accuracy 2D/3D utility plans, cross-sections, and PAS128 drawings from survey data and 3D models.
• Own the Utilities Master Model (LTC) as the single source of truth for the project.
• Interpolate trial holes, point-clouds, as-builts and GPR depth slices to plot utilities with depths and confidence levels.
• Overlay utility data onto Topographical Surveys with strict tolerances across LTC grid and OS datums.
• Create 2D/3D drawings for Permits to Dig and GS6 overhead powerline permits.
• Support Asset Protection planning, workflows and safe utility works designs.
• Coordinate designs with MEP, including temporary arrangements and interfaces.
• Manage BIM/CAD data in ProjectWise CONNECT Edition with CAD standards and QA.
• Identify clashes with delivery/design teams and propose workable site solutions.
• Report to the Survey Manager and assist Asset Protection Surveying, including trainee training.
• Create site packages and final record packages.
