Job summary

Nasstar is seeking a Principal Data Engineer for a remote, UK-based role within the Services department. You will bridge complex data architectures with business value, acting as the primary technical authority for clients and shaping multi-year data roadmaps.

You will lead delivery, governance, and mentorship, driving scalable data platforms and secure data practices while maintaining a customer-first mindset and engaging with stakeholders across client organizations.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a principal engineering role.
• Extensive experience with cloud data platforms such as Azure or AWS, with a focus on Databricks.
• Highly skilled with Pythonic data processing tools such as PySpark and SparkSQL.
• Strong understanding of data modelling concepts relational and non-relational databases.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with data integration and ETL tools.
• Excellent knowledge of big data technologies and frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of data governance and data security best practices.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and a consultative approach.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary strategic partner to client business owners, aligning technical data solutions with corporate goals.
• Drive the development of complex, large-scale data architectures and multi-year technology roadmaps.
• Oversee delivery performance across teams, ensuring quality and resilience of data pipelines.
• Lead incident triage and resolution, owning root-cause prevention and client communication.
• Implement robust governance frameworks and compliance controls for regulatory matters.
• Champion knowledge sharing and set best practices across communities of practice.
• Influence long-term organisational health by driving platform efficiency and engineering budgets.
