Job description
Overview - Fully Remote (work from home 5 days per week)

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Construction Tutor to deliver a range of Level 3 and Level 4 Construction Apprenticeships with LSP. This includes programmes in Civil Engineering, Construction Design & Build, Quantity Surveying, Construction Site Supervision, Digital Engineering, and Surveying.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background within the construction or civil engineering sectors, combined with teaching and mentoring experience. You will guide apprentices through their qualifications, support their professional development, and prepare them for successful completion of their End Point Assessments (EPAs).

Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Training
  • Deliver engaging and interactive sessions across a range of construction disciplines, including:
    • Civil Engineering Technician (L3) and Senior Technician (L4)
    • Construction Design & Build Technician (L4)
    • Quantity Surveying Technician (L4)
    • Construction Site Supervisor (L4)
    • Digital Engineering Technician (L3)
    • Surveying and Construction Support Technician (L3)
  • Develop lesson plans, learning resources, and assessments in line with BTEC and apprenticeship standards.
  • Deliver both theoretical and practical content, ensuring apprentices develop technical competence and professional behaviours.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and report any concerns to the support coach.
Assessment and Feedback
  • Assess assignments and project work in line with awarding body requirements (Pearson BTEC and NVQ standards).
  • Provide clear, constructive, and developmental feedback to support learner progress.
  • Record grades in the marking tracker and upload all assessment evidence and feedback to the e-portfolio system.
  • Support learners in preparing for their End Point Assessment (EPA), ensuring they understand requirements and grading criteria.
Mentoring and Learner Support
  • Offer one-to-one guidance to apprentices, identifying barriers to learning and providing support or referral where needed.
  • Promote professionalism and employability within the construction industry.
  • Encourage reflective practice and continuous improvement among learners.
Curriculum and Quality
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of LSPs construction curriculum to reflect current industry practice.
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance, CPD, and standardisation meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with all awarding body, ESFA, and Ofsted standards.
  • Embed health and safety, sustainability, and equality & diversity principles within teaching and learning.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Liaise effectively with employers to ensure workplace learning complements off-the-job training.
  • Work collaboratively with the support coach, curriculum leads, and quality team to monitor learner progress.
  • Attend team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
Working Pattern

Full-time tutors will typically work four teaching days and one non-teaching day each week.
Non-teaching days are used for assignment marking, CPD, lesson preparation, and quality assurance.
During designated marking weeks, tutors will focus on marking and feedback to ensure timely learner progress.

Qualifications And Experience
  • Industry qualification in Construction, Civil Engineering, or Built Environment (Level 4 or higher).
  • Teaching qualification (Cert Ed, PGCE, DTLLS, or equivalent).
  • Assessor qualification (A1, TAQA, or CAVA) desirable.
  • Experience delivering BTEC or apprenticeship standards in construction or engineering.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry practices, technologies, and health & safety standards.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and mentoring skills.
Additional Information
  • Tutors may also deliver Functional Skills (English, Maths, or ICT) where required for learners without an equivalent qualification.
  • Regular CPD and standardisation sessions are provided to ensure teaching quality and compliance.
