Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Aircraft Structures Mechanic to join a leader in aviation maintenance. This remote-first role allows you to work from anywhere in South Africa while contributing to operations based in East London, Eastern Cape.

You will perform structural repairs on airframes, interpret engineering drawings, and ensure compliance with SACAA standards, collaborating with engineers and inspectors through remote communication tools.

Qualifications

• Trade certification as an Aircraft Structures Mechanic or related aerospace trade qualification.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in aircraft structural repair and maintenance.
• Proven expertise in sheet metal work, including forming, drilling, and riveting.
• Experience with composite material repair techniques for aerospace applications.
• Ability to read and interpret aircraft structural repair manuals (SRM) and engineering drawings.
• Strong understanding of aviation regulations pertaining to structural integrity.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Effective communication and problem-solving skills, adaptable to a remote work environment.
• Ability to travel for essential on-site tasks or training as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural repairs on aircraft airframes, including sheet metal bonding, riveting, and composite material repairs, following approved technical data.
• Conduct thorough inspections of aircraft structures to identify damage, corrosion, or fatigue.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and repair manuals to guide repair and modification processes.
• Fabricate and install structural components and repairs as required.
• Ensure all structural work meets stringent safety standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., SACAA).
• Document all repair and maintenance activities accurately and comprehensively in the required systems.
• Collaborate effectively with other maintenance personnel, engineers, and quality inspectors via virtual communication tools.
• Maintain a high level of housekeeping in your work area and adhere to workshop safety protocols.
• Operate and maintain specialized tools and equipment used for structural repairs.
• Proactively identify potential structural issues and recommend preventative measures.
