Job summary

Cityscape Recruitment is seeking a Permanent Remediation Engineer to support the technical delivery of remediation projects in the Northwest of England, with travel to future sites. The role requires 2–4 years post-graduate experience, knowledge of soil sampling and remediation approaches, and a driving licence.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of post-graduate experience in remediation or related field.
  • Knowledge of soil description, sampling, remedial approaches and earthworks.
  • A valid driving licence is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-start organisation & planning of projects, coordinating subcontractors and strategies.
  • Delivery of projects with on-site safety and environmental controls.
  • Set up, operate and maintain soil and water treatment systems.
  • Carry out verification sampling, arrange laboratory analysis and assess results.
  • Maintain site records, stockpile registers and drawings.
  • Liaise with client representatives and verification engineers.
  • Project management tasks including programming and commercial duties as applicable.
  • Drawings, including basic use of AutoCAD.

Job description

About the opportunity

Permanent Remediation Engineer to assist with technical delivery of remediation and enabling projects. Initial projects will be in the Northwest of England (within commutable distance from Manchester) and future projects may be further afield; a willingness to travel and work away from home is required.

Responsibilities
  • Pre‑start organisation & planning of projects:
    • Co‑ordinating / appointing subcontractors
    • Assisting with production of remediation strategies, materials management plans, method statements and risk assessments
    • Assisting with obtaining licences, permits and regulatory approvals, including compilation of supporting technical information
    • Drawings, including basic use of Autocad
  • Delivery of projects:
    • Working with site personnel to ensure projects are implemented safely
    • Monitoring environmental emissions and ensuring control measures are implemented where required
    • Directing / supervising site activities such as excavations, drilling etc.
    • Setting up, operating and maintaining soil and water treatment systems
    • Carrying out verification contamination sampling, scheduling laboratory analysis and assessing results
    • Arranging laboratory and site geotechnical / earthworks testing
    • Waste classification and managing duty of care for disposal
    • Using GPS equipment to record and set out basic information
    • Maintaining and using equipment such as PID, noise meter, CBR probe etc.
    • Ensuring site records are kept up to date (e.g. stockpile registers, validation records, sample location drawings)
    • Overseeing material movements and compliance against the project specification and remediation strategy
    • Co‑ordinating / appointing subcontractors
    • Ongoing liaison with client representatives or third‑party verification engineers
    • Project management duties including commercial, operational and programming tasks (dependent on experience / role)
  • Project close‑out:
    • Compilation of data and drafts for verification / completion reports, health & safety files etc.
    • Feedback on project lessons learned, improvements etc.
Benefits and rewards

Requirements
  • 2–4 years of post‑graduate experience in a related discipline, ideally with significant on‑site sampling experience.
  • Knowledge of soil description, sampling, soil and groundwater remedial approaches, and earthworks practices is desirable; full training will be provided.
  • A valid driving licence is essential.
