Job summary

BaxterStorey UK is seeking a Relief Chef Manager in Northamptonshire and the Midlands. The role involves planning menus, leading the kitchen team, managing costs, and coordinating across sites with travel between locations. A vehicle is essential for travel between sites.

Typical hours are Monday to Friday 07:00–15:00 with occasional evenings and weekends. You will cover holidays and sickness, support busy sites, and contribute to projects and client events.

  • Menu planning and execution to match location style and preferences; oversee food prep and portion control.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise kitchen staff; provide coaching and performance feedback.
  • Inventory and cost control; monitor stock levels and order supplies wisely.
  • Customer relations; understand catering needs and gather feedback.
  • Health and safety compliance; support head chef in maintaining safety standards.
  • Budget and financial management; develop budgets and identify cost savings.
  • Menu development and innovation; stay updated on culinary trends.
  • Compliance and documentation; maintain accurate inventory and records.

Title: Relief Chef Manager

Location: Northamptonshire and Midlands

Salary: £36,000 - £38,000 per annum plus travel expenses

Usual hours Monday - Friday 0700 - 1500 with occasional evening and weekend shifts.

Every day will be a different day in this role where you will be supporting our teams within and outside the Nottinghamshire area. Owning your own vehicle will be essential to be able to operate between our locations where required. As a Relief Chef Manager, you will be covering holidays & sickness, additional support for busy sites, troubleshooting if needed along with assisting the operations teams with projects or key client events.

Job Description
  • Menu Planning and Execution –create and plan menus in accordance with the style and customer preferences of the location. Oversee food preparation and presentation to ensure high-quality dishes, monitoring wastage and portion control
  • Employee Management – recruit, train, and supervise all colleagues, including chefs, cooks and front of house. Provide continual guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to kitchen team.
  • Inventory and Cost Control –monitor and manage stock levels, sensible approach to ordering supplies
  • Customer Relations -Interact with customers to understand their specific catering needs and preferences and maintain an open channel of communication to address any concerns or requirements. Consistently seeking feedback is key to success
  • Health and Safety Compliance –support the head chef to ensure adherence to health and safety regulations and food safety protocols/policies. Create an environment that has safety embedded in the culture
  • Budget and Financial Management –develop and manage kitchen budgets, report on financial performance and implement any cost savings required without impacting delivery of excellence
  • Menu Development and Innovation –stay updated on culinary trends and incorporate new ideas into menus
  • Compliance and Documentation -maintain accurate records of inventory, orders, and food preparation processes and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
