Technology. You will manage, lead and coach a team of technical experts who build software and customer experiences that continue to drive, shape and deliver our customer‑centric, data‑driven and digital‑first strategy. This vacancy is a 12‑month fixed‑term contract position.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Lead for a squad, ensuring collaborative working with Product Owners, Developers, QA’s, Architects and the wider business.
  • Lead, manage and coach a team of engineers and provide expert hands‑on software development.
  • Ensure high technical standards are met throughout the team.
  • Collaborate with the Product Owner to keep the squad mission clear, aligned with the wider technology strategy, maintain a healthy backlog and work to Agile practices.
  • Work with our Architects and Principal Engineers on new technology choices and architecture evolution.
  • Continuously improve engineering practices in the squad, including code quality, testing and CI CD.
  • Act as a senior member of esure’s engineering community.
  • Share technical expertise with the team and champion or drive technology change beyond the squad.
Qualifications
  • A deep love of technology with a customer‑centric approach.
  • A passion for people development and motivation.
  • Experience leading a software‑development squad in an Agile environment.
  • Strong Java expertise with Spring Boot experience.
  • Experience with CI/CD, Jenkins, Docker (ideally Kubernetes) and cloud platforms, ideally AWS.
  • Design and development experience of distributed, scalable, highly available systems.
  • Advocacy of Agile methodologies: Scrum, Kanban, TDD, BDD, continuous integration.

Interview Process (subject to change)
  • Introductory call with a Talent Partner to explore the position in more detail.
  • 1 hour interview with the Head of Technology.
  • 1 hour interview with 2 Technical Leads, including a technical task and interview questions.
  • 30‑minute meeting with members of an Agile Squad (Product Owner and Delivery Manager).
  • Final meeting with the Head of Technology and the Chief Technology Officer.
