Job summary

HSBC Holdings plc invites driven undergraduates to join a 12‑month placement in Birmingham within Commercial Banking. From day one you will work alongside Relationship Managers and specialists to understand client needs and support tailored solutions.

You will help prepare presentations, credit papers and strategic reviews while gaining exposure to risk assessment and cross‑functional collaboration. You will receive structured training from local and external experts to deepen your understanding

What you'll do

It’s practical, relationship‑led work that gives you real exposure to how client partnerships are built and supported.

As your placement progresses, you’ll build a stronger understanding of relationship management in Commercial Banking, including how products, client needs and specialist teams come together to support businesses. You’ll also deepen your commercial awareness by seeing how relationship‑led banking balances opportunity, service and risk. The placement is designed to help you connect what you learn to the bigger picture of how commercial banking works in practice. By the end, you’ll have a clearer understanding of this area of the bank, stronger professional confidence and a better sense of where you could make your mark.

You’ll work in Commercial Banking, in a relationship‑led environment supporting business clients through close teamwork and specialist expertise. You’ll be part of a collaborative office culture where Relationship Managers work closely with colleagues across Credit, Risk and Legal to deliver joined‑up support. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, you must:

• Available to work full time for 12 months commencing June 2027
• Will have completed your undergraduate studies by July 2029
• Able to complete a placement programme as part of your undergraduate studies, graduating in 2029
• On‑track to obtain a minimum of a 2:1 undergraduate degree (or overseas equivalent to this)
• Be in your penultimate year of undergraduate study
• Legally permitted to work in the UK for the full duration of the programme and beyond the end date, without requiring HSBC visa sponsorship

This programme is considered a conversion route to the Commercial Banking Graduate Programme, which, in turn, does not satisfy the Home Office eligibility criteria for visa sponsorship. We therefore can only progress applications from candidates who can demonstrate that they are eligible to work in the UK without HSBC sponsorship for the full duration of, and beyond, the graduate programme end date.

We cannot progress applications from candidates who apply with a student visa as you would not be eligible for sponsorship by HSBC when your current visa expires.You will need to confirm what visa you hold, if any, and its expiry date when you apply for us to verify your eligibility.
