Job summary

Obsidian is seeking a role-focused on reinsurance and program business to design risk-transfer scenarios and evaluate model outputs against market standards. The role involves writing reference responses and producing analyses of contract structures and governance in a flexible, AI-enabled environment.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in reinsurance or related fields, a grasp of treaty/ facultative concepts, and strong written judgment with attention to detail.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional experience in reinsurance, program business, delegated authority, fronting, captive insurance or alternative risk transfer.
• Familiarity with treaty reinsurance, facultative reinsurance, MGA/MGU programs, Lloyd's arrangements, captives or fronted programs.
• Ability to identify the economic and operational responsibilities of cedents, reinsurers, brokers, MGAs, fronting carriers and insureds.
• Understanding how contract structure changes risk transfer, earnings, collateral, claims handling and reporting.
• Demonstrate excellent written reasoning, commercial judgment and high attention to detail.
• Can distinguish reinsurance decisions from direct underwriting and ordinary claim adjudication.

Responsibilities

• Design treaty and facultative reinsurance scenarios.
• Create work products such as structure comparisons, submission analyses and contract summaries.
• Write 'golden' reference responses at experienced reinsurance and program-business quality.
• Grade AI-generated responses for structural accuracy, contract logic, financial understanding, stakeholder roles and market realism.
• Identify misunderstandings of layers, limits, retentions, commissions, claims control, collateral and counterparty exposure.
• Provide written feedback the research team uses to improve model behaviour.
• Participate in onboarding office hours and calibration sessions.
