Job summary

Standard Life in London seeks an experienced Qualified Actuary for a permanent role focused on reinsurance structuring, longevity risk analysis and commercial transactions.

You will price and assess reinsurance solutions, develop strategies, and support governance, with a hybrid work pattern balancing office and home based on business needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience structuring and executing reinsurance or derisking transactions.
  • Strong analytical and technical aptitude in data handling and longevity analysis.
  • Experience handling large datasets and cashflow modelling.
  • Knowledge of BPA market and insurer balance sheets.

Responsibilities

  • Support sourcing and assessment pricing of reinsurance solutions flow and facultative longevity to secure optimal commercial outcomes.
  • Perform analytical assessments to evaluate longevity swaps and funded reinsurance transactions.
  • Contribute to structuring and managing live reinsurance transactions.
  • Develop recommendations to strengthen transaction strategy and maximise success.
  • Support negotiation and documentation throughout deal execution.
  • Assist onboarding new reinsurance arrangements and ensure governance compliance.
  • Support senior stakeholder briefing and adoption of new developments.

Type: Permanent

Key Responsibilities
  • Support sourcing and assessment pricing of reinsurance solutions flow and facultative longevity to secure optimal commercial outcomes.
  • Perform analytical assessments to evaluate the commercial viability of longevity swaps and funded reinsurance transactions.
  • Contribute to structuring and project‑managing live reinsurance transactions.
  • Develop recommendations to strengthen transaction strategy and maximise success in competitive processes.
  • Support negotiation and documentation activities throughout deal execution.
  • Assist in onboarding new reinsurance arrangements and ensuring compliance with governance standards.
  • Support senior stakeholder briefing including approval papers and help take colleagues along the journey where new developments or approaches are introduced
Process Improvement & Strategic Development
  • Enhance, streamline and embed efficient processes across reinsurance activities.
  • Maintain awareness of SII, Matching Adjustment and implications for reinsurance structuring.
  • Contribute to expanding reinsurance capability within the team and across the business.
What We’re Looking For
Technical Skills & Experience (Essential)
  • Experience in structuring and executing reinsurance or derisking transactions, with solid commercial acumen
  • Strong analytical and technical aptitude, particularly in data manipulation, cashflow modelling, and longevity experience analysis
  • Strong data‑wrangling capability and experience handling large datasets
  • Strong knowledge of insurer balance sheets, the BPA market, longevity underwriting or DB de‑risking
Qualifications (Essential):

Qualified Actuary, with experience in the pension or life specialism

  • Excellent communication, time management and stakeholder‑management skills.
