Job summary

Yorkshire Water is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join the Strategy & Regulation team to deliver regulatory and legislative projects for customers. You will plan, manage and lead project work streams, ensuring on-time delivery within budget and high quality outcomes.

The role is a fixed-term contract for 18 months, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, offering development opportunities and a strong benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing full life cycle projects from initiation to delivery.
  • Project management qualifications or similar (e.g., Prince2 or APM).
  • Proven track record leading project teams and delivering within targets.
  • Experience in budgeting, planning, resource and stakeholder management.
  • Strategic thinking with ability to set direction and implement plans.
  • Experience embedding change and shaping culture and behaviours.
  • Ability to analyse data and present risks and insights clearly.
  • Strong communication across all levels of the business.
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute project work plans, revising as necessary to meet changing requirements.
  • Prepare high-level business cases, recognizing costs and benefits to support sponsors.
  • Manage resources in collaboration with managers, sponsors, and sub-contractors.
  • Lead and manage projects to deliver on time, within budget and quality standards.
  • Produce reports on ROI, risk, business case and implementation plans.
  • Promote new ideas and drive project opportunities with partners and suppliers.
  • Manage stakeholders and ensure effective communication plans are in place.
  • Represent the organisation with regulators and coordinate submissions and analyses.

This role will be accountable for planning and managing the delivery of regulatory and legislative projects. Having a good awareness of the regulatory and legislative framework generally, and the ability to understand the relevant part of the framework or the law specifically to be able to articulate the purpose to others and secure a successful outcome. The Regulatory Project Manager may also take the technical lead or become the subject matter expert on activities to implement or embed new regulatory concepts.

As our Project Manager you will:
  • Create and execute project work plans, revising as necessary to meet changing requirements.

  • Manages resources in collaboration with functional managers, sponsors, and sub-contractors.
  • Leads, scopes, and manages projects to ensure delivery on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Produces high-quality reports on ROI, risk, business case, and implementation plans.
  • Promotes new ideas and drives project opportunities through collaboration with partners, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Manages stakeholders and ensures effective communication plans are in place.
  • Represents the organization with regulators, coordinates regulatory submissions, and provides regulatory analysis and support.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
  • Experience of managing full life cycle projects.
  • Project management qualifications or similar e.g. Prince2 and APM.
  • Experience of managing and leading a project team with a proven track record of driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets.
  • Experience of business planning, resource and budget management.
  • Experience of strategic thinking, establishing clear strategic direction and implementing plans to deliver.
  • Experience of leading and embedding change, able to influence and drive right culture and behaviours.
  • Experience of compiling, assessing, interpretation and communication of data and information, including the ability to clearly present key items and risks at all levels.
  • Good communication skills, able to communicate across the business and at all levels.
  • Influences and leads appropriately.
  • Develops and maintains effective internal and external relationships.
You will also benefit from having:
  • Knowledge of the Regulatory framework and legislation relevant to the Water Industry.
  • Previous experience gained within the water or wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process or manufacturing industry sectors.
  • Experience in a commercially orientated environment, in strategic leadership and / or an operational role.
  • Experience of enabling and embedding change, able to influence and drive right culture and behaviours.
