Job summary

The Regulatory Assurance Manager at NMC sits in the Office of the Chair and Chief Executive, strengthening regulatory performance and readiness. About the Team

Join the Regulatory Assurance team at a pivotal moment for the NMC.

Based within the Office of the Chair and Chief Executive, the team sits at the centre of one of the organisation's most strategically important priorities: strengthening the NMC's performance against external regulatory standards and maintaining stakeholder confidence in our regulatory functions.

The team is responsible for managing the NMC's relationship with the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) as its key oversight body, coordinating assurance activity, supporting senior leaders and helping the organisation demonstrate continuous improvement. Working across every area of the NMC, the team provides challenge, insight and coordination to ensure the organisation can evidence the quality, effectiveness and impact of its regulatory functions.

This is a highly visible role offering a unique view of the entire organisation. You'll collaborate with colleagues across our professional regulation, professional practice, policy, governance, operations and data teams, gaining insight into how a national regulator operates while helping shape its future performance and reputation.

Your Role and Impact

As a Regulatory Assurance Manager, you'll play a key role in helping the NMC strengthen its regulatory performance, improve organisational readiness and build confidence with external stakeholders.

You'll work across the organisation to coordinate assurance activity, manage regulatory reporting processes and support the NMC's response to external oversight and performance review requirements. A significant focus of the role will be preparing the organisation for working to new regulatory standards and helping colleagues understand what is required to demonstrate compliance, improvement and good regulatory practice.

In this role, you will:

• Lead and coordinate regulatory assurance activity, ensuring reporting, submissions and evidence are accurate, timely and aligned to organisational priorities.
• Support the organisation's transition to new regulatory standards, helping colleagues understand requirements and embed them into everyday practice.
• Gather, analyse and quality assure complex information from across the organisation, transforming it into clear and compelling reports, briefings and submissions.
• Coordinate organisational responses to external recommendations and findings, working with stakeholders to develop actions, monitor progress and demonstrate improvement.
• Build strong relationships across the NMC, influencing, supporting and constructively challenging colleagues to provide meaningful evidence and assurance.
• Act as a trusted adviser on assurance requirements, regulatory standards and performance expectations across multiple business areas.
• Produce high-quality reports, performance information and executive briefings for senior leaders and governance forums.
• Monitor risks, actions, dependencies and deadlines, ensuring key assurance activities remain on track and issues are escalated appropriately.
• Support engagement with the PSA and other external stakeholders and oversight bodies, helping to maintain positive, productive and professional relationships.
• Identify opportunities to improve assurance processes, strengthen organisational learning and enhance the NMC's overall regulatory performance.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who is confident working with complex information, building strong relationships and coordinating activity across multiple teams to deliver shared goals.

You may already have experience in regulation, assurance, audit, oversight, performance reporting, public sector accountability, governance or another environment where you've managed complex stakeholder relationships and translated large volumes of information into clear, actionable insight. Experience within a regulatory environment would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in candidates who can demonstrate transferable skills from similarly complex and highly scrutinised sectors.
