Job description
Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our Nursing team for a 12-month fixed term maternity cover period from September 2025 onwards. The position is based at our Fishguard Practice and you will be led by our Head Nurse and supported by our Nursing Team.

Responsibilities
  • Nursing care for hospitalized and day patients, including monitoring anaesthetics and client consultations.
  • Carry out procedures such as nail clipping and dental checks.
  • Administer medications and vaccinations; assist during surgeries and procedures.
  • Infection control, stock management, and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with house visits, oversee and train ANAs and nursing students.
  • Dispense pharmaceuticals, use lab equipment, and assist with marketing.
  • Adhere to health and safety policies, manage waste control, and support day-to-day issues for the Head Nurse.
  • Clinical coaching experience is desirable as the role includes training Student Nurses/ANA's.
Rota and Working
Arrangements
  • Standard pattern: 37.5 hours across 5 days (8:30am–5:00pm).
  • Plus 1 in 5 Saturdays on a shared rota.
  • Out of Hours Services may be provided; In Patient Care is offered on a case-by-case basis to support the Vet Team.

Our facilities include an aquatic treadmill for hydrotherapy—the only Vet-led facility in Pembrokeshire.

Facilities and Team

Our main small animal surgery in Haverfordwest provides surgery, dentistry, internal laboratory, ultrasound, radiography, and endoscopy. The Fishguard branch features a Vet-led base with an aquatic treadmill for hydrotherapy, rehab/physio team, internal laboratory, dentistry, surgical facilities, and laser use across sites. We have a blended team of veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses, student nurses, a Practice Manager, reception coordinator and a cross-site reception team. An advanced Small Animal Surgery practitioner performs weekly advanced surgeries to support in-house orthopaedic and soft-tissue work.

We are a collaborative team with Vets, RVNs, and student nurses. Our team includes opportunities for professional development, with Vets pursuing varied certifications and skills such as acupuncture and rehabilitation. We regularly participate in social events and team-building activities.
