The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a competent nurse to work within the Ward/Department team. You will assess care needs, plan and evaluate care, and deliver evidence-based nursing with supervision and mentorship for learners.
You will communicate effectively with the MDT, participate in teaching, and support discharge planning while maintaining accurate nursing records and safe medication administration.
The post holder will work in partnership with the Ward / Department Sister/Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to ensure that the standards of nursing care are met at all times. This includes assisting the ward / department Sister and the whole team to meet the agreed standards of hospital cleanliness within the work environment.
To provide and be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and to carry out all relevant forms of care competently without direct supervision.
Communicate with members of the multidisciplinary team to facilitate continuity of care and promote effective team working.
To participate in the teaching, supervision and preceptorship/mentorship of learners and other staff. In the absence of a more senior nurse, take charge of the ward.
To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.
To support the Charge Nurse/Senior Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients.
To be responsible for the unsupervised assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring high standards of evidence-based care using a defined model of care.
To undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with Trust policies and ensure that these procedures and policies are understood and adhered to by all staff, within own management responsibility.
To communicate with patients with significant others with empathy and reassurance regarding, assessment, care and treatment.
To ensure a positive focussed service incorporating patients’ feedback to maintain and improve patient care.
To maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records using appropriate documentation.
To facilitate early discharge planning enabling appropriate arrangements to be in place for patients leaving hospital, making referrals and providing information to community services, as required, in order to achieve a safe and timely discharge from hospital.
Ensure safe custody and administration of drugs according to The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Trust Policy and procedures, including intravenous medication where appropriate.
