Job summary

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 5 staff nurse for the Children's Outpatients team at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. You will provide family-centred outpatient and ambulatory care to babies, children and young people, performing venepuncture, cannulation and ECGs, while supporting students and new starters.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, compassionate, patient-centred nursing care to children and young people in outpatient clinics.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients with acute and chronic health conditions.
• Carry out clinical procedures including venepuncture, cannulation, ECGs, allergy testing and HbA1c monitoring.
• Support children needing ambulatory care, intravenous therapy, immunisations and pre-operative assessment.
• Communicate with children, young people, parents and carers at a level suited to each person's understanding.
• Advocate for patients and families, promoting dignity, respect and safeguarding.
• Keep accurate clinical records in line with NMC and Trust standards.
• Take part in service audits, quality improvement and the adoption of best practice.
• Support the leadership, supervision, induction and development of students, new starters and junior staff.
• Help clinics run smoothly, prioritising patient safety and organisation.
• Prepare clinical environments and support efficient clinic running.
• Monitor and record clinical observations and respond to changing patient needs.

Job description

This Band 5 staff nurse post sits in the Children's Outpatients team at Musgrove Park Hospital, run by Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. The nurse provides family-centred outpatient and ambulatory care to babies, children and young people up to 18 with a wide range of acute and chronic physical and mental health conditions. The role includes hands-on procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation and ECGs, and supporting students and new starters. NMC registration is required.
