As a Band 5 Staff Nurse, you will play a vital role in supporting patients through various stages of their orthopaedic journey. You will be responsible for the efficient running of outpatient clinics, including pre- and post-operative consultations, trauma follow-ups, and ongoing care. The role involves the assessment and management of surgical and trauma-related wounds, application and monitoring of orthotic appliances (e.g., splints, braces), and ensuring safe, evidence-based nursing care is delivered at all times.

You will also contribute to the development of future nurses by providing mentorship and support to student nurses during their clinical placements, fostering a positive learning environment.

This is a varied and rewarding position requiring excellent clinical skills, adaptability, and strong communication abilities. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams including orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, and plaster technicians to ensure holistic care for patients.

We welcome applications from Pre-Registered Nurses.

Responsibilities
  • Run and assist in orthopaedic outpatient clinics.
  • Provide post-operative and trauma wound care, including dressing changes and wound assessments.
  • Apply and manage orthotic appliances as per clinical indications.
  • Deliver safe, patient-focused nursing care in line with best practices and trust guidelines.
  • Mentor and support student nurses, promoting learning and professional development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to effective communication within the MDT.
Benefits
  • Access to the NHS Pension Scheme, providing generous benefits upon retirement, as well as a lump sum and pension for dependants.
  • 27 days holiday rising to 33 days (depending on NHS Trust service).
  • A variety of different types of paid and unpaid leave covering emergency and planned leave.
  • Confidential advice and support on personal, work, family and relationship issues, 24/7, from our Employee Assistance Programme.
  • NHS Car Lease scheme and Cycle to Work scheme.
  • An extensive range of learning and development opportunities.
  • Discounts on restaurants, getaways, shopping, motoring, cinema and finance from a range of providers.
