The role requires maintaining high standards of patient care, communicating effectively within a multi-disciplinary environment, and ensuring compliance with professional conduct codes. Candidates should complete the Trust’s preceptorship programme and demonstrate evidence-based practice. The position offers numerous benefits, including flexible working hours and support for career development.
A Vacancy at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Acute oncology service provision was identified in 2009 as a key recommendation of the National Chemotherapy Advisory Group (NCAG) for improving quality and safety of emergency care for those patients with previously undiagnosed cancer and complications of cancer or treatment. The role has since been consolidated and now covers haemato‑oncology as well as solid tumour oncology.
AOHS is an exciting and evolving speciality that brings together disciplines from oncology, haematology, emergency care (ED), acute medicine and palliative care as well as community teams to provide a cohesive service for patients presenting with haemato‑oncological emergencies.
AOHS aims to provide a co‑ordinated approach to the care of cancer patients presenting as an emergency. AOHS provides an ambulatory care model and is pro‑active in avoiding hospital admissions. The investigations and treatment strategies undertaken in AOHS deliver the same benefits as inpatient care. AOHS are vital for providing consistent and high‑quality care for patients, for optimising clinician time and expertise and ensuring the best use of NHS resource. As specialists in cancer care we are best placed to meet the complex needs of acutely presenting cancer patients across a wide variety of clinical contexts. Every year, over 10,000 people contacts and are assessed by AOHS and 89% of these patients are managed as an outpatient and not admitted to the acute Trust.
