Job description
The Team

Womens+ Outpatient Service - Hospitals North, delivers both antenatal and gynaecology services to the Northern Tasmanian community. The multidisciplinary team works collaboratively to support women throughout their reproductive health journey, with a strong focus on continuity of care and consumer‑centred practice. The service also provides outreach clinics to improve access for rural and regional populations. Our service is committed to professional growth and offers rotational opportunities to the maternity ward, supporting professional development and service flexibility. The team’s work is guided by a commitment to excellence, equity, and innovation in women’s health.

The Role
  • Deliver Women‑Centred Care: Collaborate with the healthcare team to plan, implement, and evaluate safe, evidence‑based midwifery care in line with NMBA standards, involving women and their families in decision‑making.
  • Promote Safety and Compliance: Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to relevant legislation, policies, procedures, and mandatory reporting obligations, including child safety principles.
  • Foster Teamwork: Communicate effectively and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a supportive and respectful workplace culture.
  • Drive Excellence in Practice: Engage in continuous quality improvement, research, and the development of best practice guidelines and clinical documentation.
  • Support Learning and Development: Educate women and families, contribute to staff development through preceptorship and orientation, and participate in ongoing professional learning.
  • Uphold Accountability and Documentation: Maintain accurate, objective clinical records and comply with organisational expectations, including additional duties aligned with the role’s classification.
You will need
  • Current knowledge of, and the ability to apply midwifery principles, procedures and practices in the delivery of patient/client care in a designated practice area and in line with legal requirements and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) National Competency Standards for the Registered Midwife.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills, including written skills and the ability to function effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Knowledge of continuous quality improvement (safety and quality) and the application of evidence‑based practice in the practice setting.
  • Ability to undertake client education in the practice setting, together with a commitment to participate in ongoing professional development.

Details of appointment

Permanent part time, shift worker position, working up to 48 hours per fortnight, commencing 6 January 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

$78,179 to $105,995 pro rata per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

Access to the Grade 4 salary range $99,455- $105,995 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
