Job description

We are looking for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our friendly Nurse‑led Haemodialysis Team at Harrogate Satellite Renal Unit.

This is a 30‑hour per week permanent position.

Harrogate Satellite Unit is an 8‑station Haemodialysis Unit caring for patients with chronic kidney disease. We are part of York Renal Services which also has a main unit at York Hospital and a satellite unit in Easingwold.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse who demonstrates excellent communication, leadership skills and the ability to work well under pressure.

No previous dialysis experience is required – a comprehensive training package will be provided. Ongoing support will be given by other members of the nursing team and the Renal Clinical Educator.

Although based at Harrogate, the successful candidate must be flexible to cover occasional shifts at York or Easingwold if needed. The role also requires participation in the limited out‑of‑hours on‑call service as required.

Our unit is open Monday to Saturday 06:30 am – 12:00 am, closed on Sundays.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a high standard of patient‑focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment
  • Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept
  • Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information
  • Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient
  • Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct
  • Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands
  • Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures
Qualifications and requirements
  • Pre‑registration nursing qualification acceptable, or currently in the final year of nursing training
  • Valid Nursing and Midwifery Council PIN
  • Excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and exercise initiative
  • Interest in renal nursing and willingness to undertake comprehensive training
Additional Information
  • Interviews will be held in person only – remote interviews not available
  • If you want your application considered for secondment, secure agreement from your line manager beforehand
  • This post may become Permanent at the end of the Fixed Term/Secondment
  • Occasional shifts at York or Easingwold may be required
