Prison-Cleared Registered Nurse - Durham

Location: Durham

Rate: £28.00 - £32.00 per hour (depending on shift type and experience)

Contract: 3 – 6 months (with likely extension)

Hours: Full‑Time or Part‑Time, Flexible Shifts Available (Days, Nights, Weekends)

Belmont Recruitment are looking for Registered Nurses (RGNs or RMNs) with current prison clearance (CTC) to join the healthcare team at a busy prison in Durham.

This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced nurses who thrive in fast‑paced, multi‑disciplinary environments and are passionate about delivering quality care within secure settings.

You'll be supporting the primary care team in delivering a wide range of clinical interventions, from minor injury and illness management to long‑term condition care, triage, medication rounds, and mental health support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based nursing care to prisoners with varying physical and mental health needs
  • Carrying out assessments, triage, and care planning in line with clinical guidelines
  • Administering medications, managing wound care, and supporting health promotion activities
  • Working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, including GPs, mental health professionals, substance misuse teams, and prison officers
  • Responding to medical emergencies within the prison estate
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential clinical records
  • Ensuring adherence to all safeguarding, security, and risk management protocols
Requirements
  • NMC Registered Nurse (RGN or RMN)
  • Current prison clearance (CTC/NPPV) – essential
  • Previous experience working in prison healthcare, police custody, or secure settings
