Job summary

East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust recruits a Band 5 Registered Nurse for its 20-bed Critical Care unit at The Lister Hospital, Stevenage. You will care for ventilated and haemofiltered patients initially under supervision, progressing to autonomous practice with KSf development.

The role includes training support from our Clinical Nurse Educator and active involvement in professional development, with flexible working to suit service needs.

Qualifications

  • RGN registered nurse with NHS experience.
  • Willingness to pursue Diploma/ Degree in Critical Care Nursing.
  • Post basic ENB 124/100/920 training is desirable.
  • Evidence of ongoing continuing education in nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Manage ventilated and critically ill patients, under supervision, progressing to autonomous care with KSf.
  • Support Nurse Team Leaders and Managers in training less senior staff.
  • Deliver high standard of care in Recovery and Emergency Department when not in Critical Care.
  • Stay informed about changes in Critical Care outreach and maintain revalidation requirements.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will manage the ventilated, haemofiltered, and cardiovascularly compromised patient initially under supervision, whilst developing professionally, utilising competency based Knowledge & Skills Framework (KSF) leading to autonomy of care when proficient, in conjunction with further development of management skills.

You will provide support to Nurse Team Leaders and Managers in the training and development of less senior staff.

The post holder will demonstrate proficiency in the management of acutely unwell and deteriorating patients who are nursed outside the critical care setting, i.e. the Recovery and Emergency Department.

You will be fully informed about changes in Critical Care Outreach and update professional knowledge to meet the requirements for revalidation.

You will also manage and deliver patient care to the highest standard utilising a holistic research-based model and including patient and relative involvement.
