Job summary

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Registered Nurse (Band 5) to work on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU). The role is a 36-hour per week, fixed-term contract for 12 months ending August 2027, with both day and night shifts available.

The post requires active adult nursing registration, experience in acute care, and ability to work within a fast-paced team while maintaining high standards of patient care. Salary ranges from £32,073 to £39,043 per annum pro rata.

Job overview

Registered Band 5 Staff Nurse working on the Acute medical unit delivering high standards of quality care. 36 hours available. 12 months fixed term until August 2027

36 hours per week.

The acute medical unit is a fast paced, acute care environment; assessing, prioritising and caring for a multitude of patient and families, with specific acute care needs and long term conditions. AMU is a 39 bedded Short Stay Unit . We care for patients with acute care needs for up to 72 hrs and look after speciality patients until a bed becomes available in the appropriate area. Our team is a rapidly growing workforce delivering high quality patient centred care ensuring that we are continuingly assessing, auditing and developing our ways of working.

The role will consist of 12 hrs shifts; both day and night shift working.

Main duties of the job

Manage and provide all aspects of patient care.

Admit, assess & elevate any concerns to nurse in charge.

Assessing NEWS score and effectively managing.

Act in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct.

Support other nurses in the ward team as necessary.

Demonstrate practice based on current advances in nursing practice and research.

Comply with infection prevention and control procedures at all times.

Comply with responsibility to safeguard children and vulnerable adults, ensuring attendance at appropriate training.

Take personal responsibility for putting the person receiving care first, and to challenge poor care, doing so as soon as any shortcomings are seen.

Qualifications
  • Registered nurse (adult) with active registration.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and potentially working towards or holding an MSc in nursing
  • Experience of CIC IT systems.
Knowledge and experience
  • Experience in an acute hospital setting, demonstrating an awareness of current professional nursing issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with quality and safety standards and ward audit requirements.
  • Understanding of clinical governance issues and clinical risk management.
Skills and aptitudes
  • Ability to plan and organise workload.
  • Ability to supervise qualified and unqualified staff
  • Ability to prioritise and make decisions.
  • Proficient in venepuncture and cannulation.
