Registered Nurse (21Month Midwifery programme BSc (Hons) Degree/ MSc )

The pre‑registration Midwifery programme (shortened) is a Full‑time programme offered at BSc (Hons) or master's level at the University of Hertfordshire. It is an innovative, flexible, work‑based course for qualified Nurses who want to become Midwives. It will develop your skills and knowledge so that you can become a responsive, confident midwife able to care for women and their babies. Focusing on holistic care, you will gain a sound knowledge of what is normal and healthy in childbearing women, enabling you to recognise and manage problems they might face.

The programme consists of 86 weeks in total, with eight study block weeks, and reading and professional development time included. During your clinical placements, you will be supported through online resources, discussions, group working and reflection sessions. We use a blended approach to theory which includes online and face‑to‑face skills sessions.

We have used a variety of learning and teaching strategies to ensure that we maintain a high standard of teaching. Each clinical week comprises 40 hours and is a combination of 30 clinical hours and 10 hours of self‑directed theory.

We are not able to offer sponsorship for this post.

Successful candidates will be offered either Luton and Dunstable Hospital site, or Bedford Hospital site for placements – this includes community, antenatal wards, postnatal wards, and delivery suite/midwifery‑led as well as other specialised maternity areas.

Main duties of the job

• To care for a group of patients during a shift and achieve and maintain a high standard of Midwifery care.
• To assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for individuals ensuring a high standard of Midwifery practice at all times.
• To participate in undertaking a clinical management round of a designated group of patients in order to assess and prioritise care.
• To communicate effectively with patients and their families, ensuring that their needs for information are met.
• To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and treatment and that they have sufficient information to do this.
