Are you a registered nurse looking for a new challenge in an exciting and growing specialist team? Our pre op assessment department could be your next great move. Develop your assessment skills, clinical history taking and other nursing skills in a supportive and knowledgeable MDT. With National competencies, E learning and an in house competency pathway coming soon there are opportunities to progress and learn in assessing fitness for anaesthetic/surgery covering a wide range of surgical specialities.The post holder will review the patients' Pre-assessment health questionnaire with the patient in order to highlight any potential problems for undergoing a General anaesthetic. The post holder will prepare elective surgical patients for procedures and order appropriate clinical investigations according to agreed protocols to aid thorough assessment of the patient prior to admission. The post holder will work closely with the extended multi-disciplinary team to optimise patients fitness and preparation for surgery e.g. Stoma Nurse Specialist, Dieticians etc.
The role will include:Assessing adults of all ages for general and regional anaesthetics as well as triaging local anaesthetic patients on a varied case mix of patientsAssess, plan, implement and evaluate holistic, high quality and individualised care which respects a patients person, dignity and beliefsMaintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors and staffProvide clinical advice and support to staff and patients within own level of competenceTo ensure that patients health needs are assessed to ensure that elective surgical pathways are completed in a safe measurable wayIdentifying complex patients requiring anaesthetic reviewWorking with out Co-ordination team regarding patients who are not fit for surgeryCarrying out observations, venepuncture and ECG recordingReviewing results and assessments and referring on for specialised further testing to a variety of other servicesWorking with the MDT including the pre op team, surgeons, GP, Anaesthetics and Cardio Respiratory servicesWorking across 3 sites and amongst a very friendly and experienced teamAct as a mentor to students including teaching, assessing and upholding evidence based practice
