Job summary

NHS Professionals is recruiting a Registered Mental Health Nurse for a six-month bank post at Southampton General Hospital. The role focuses on promoting recovery, assessing and planning care, administering medications, and supporting patients with daily tasks.

Shifts are Monday to Friday daytime only, with local candidates preferred as travel and accommodation are not covered. Candidates must have recent mental health hospital or prison experience and hold a valid PMVA certificate.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Mental Health Nursing degree.
• NMC registration is required.
• Experience in mental health settings preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly with patients and families.
• Strong record keeping and care planning skills.

Job description

A six-month bank post through NHS Professionals, the NHS staff bank, places a Registered Mental Health Nurse at Southampton General Hospital. The work centres on promoting recovery, assessing and planning nursing care, giving medication and helping patients with personal care and everyday tasks. Shifts are weekday days only, Monday to Friday, with no nights or weekends, and local candidates are preferred as travel and accommodation are not covered. Applicants need recent mental health hospital or prison experience and a valid PMVA certificate.

What’s required

Registration & licences

Experience

• At least 6 months as a mental health RN in a UK hospital or prison within the last 2 years, or a Return to Practice completed within the last 2 years
• Experience of working in a mental health hospital setting

Skills & knowledge

• Excellent communication skills
• Basic clinical observation skills
• Ability to keep records to a high standard
• Ability to work as an independent practitioner
• Proficiency in delivering patient care

Other

• Valid PMVA certificate
• Undertake regular mandatory training
• Available for Monday to Friday day shifts only
• Living locally to Southampton preferred, as travel and accommodation are not provided
