Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking a Registered Dental Nurse to join their community dental service. You will provide essential support to dental staff and students across multiple sites. The role requires a National Certificate in Dental Nursing or equivalent, and registration with the General Dental Council. Candidates must have strong communication and organisational skills, as well as experience in dental practice. This is a full-time position with flexible working arrangements available.

An opportunity to join an established team, as a qualified Dental Nurse, providing support to and working alongside qualified dental staff and undergraduate's within the Community Dental Service in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Mainly based in the Community across 4 sites (Arthurs Hill, Kenton, Molineux(Byker) & Walker). The role will also require you to work anywhere within the Dental Directorate including Dental Hospital, Royal Victoria Infirmary & Freeman Hospital.

Main duties of the job
  • Providing support to patients with additional needs i.e. medically compromised, learning difficulties & physical disabilities.
  • The post holder will act as a member of the dental team in the community dentistry working with and assisting dentists, higher specialist trainees, General Dental Practitioners, dental hygienists and therapists, post graduates including MSc students and dental students.
  • An experienced dental nurse is expected to demonstrate activities and provide supervision and practical training to student dental nurses and new, less experienced dental nurses.
  • Although based on a specific department in the dental directorate, the post holder will be required to work as necessary within any area of the hospital and other dental units within the Trust.

Job responsibilities
  • To provide chair‑side assistance (including patients being treated under General Anaesthetic) to all grades of dental staff and students working within the dental hospital.
  • To prepare all instruments, equipment and materials required for treatment.
  • To provide care and support for patients undergoing a variety of treatments.
  • To provide pre and post operative instructions and advice, so maintaining a high standard of patient care at all times.
  • To ensure patient confidentiality is always upheld.
  • To provide administrative assistance with regard to liaising with patients and other external agencies.
  • To provide clinical supervision and practical training to student dental nurses and other less experienced staff on a daily basis.
  • To ensure that cross infection control, the cleanliness of the department, stock levels and equipment are well maintained.
Person Specification
Skill
  • National Certificate in Dental Nursing or NVQ Level 3 in Oral Healthcare (or equivalent qualification). Portfolio must be completed and signed.
