Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Building Control Inspector to join our award-winning Building Control team. This role will help support the delivery of Solihull Council’s responsibilities under the Building Safety Act and delivering high-quality Building Control services across the borough.

You’ll be an integral part of a high-performing and growing team that works closely with Planning, Solihull Community Housing, project delivery teams and our suite of external customers to ensure safe, compliant, and sustainable development and who are already successfully delivering high quality, customer focused Building Control across Solihull.

The role

As a Registered Building Control Inspector, you will

  • Continue to develop your professional expertise in building control.
  • Help administer and implement building regulations and allied legislation.
  • Independently carry out inspections, compliance visits, investigations, surveys, and interventions across a variety of building control settings.
  • Deliver enforcement activities, as appropriate, and maintain accurate case records, responding within corporate timescales and keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Contribute to proactive project work, complaint investigations, and educational/training initiatives as your knowledge continues to develop.

Key Requirements

As a Registered Building Inspector, you will have

  • Chartered status of a relevant professional body / institute.
  • Registered as a Class 2 Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR).
  • Demonstrable technical competence and practical site experience, enabling delivery of a comprehensive building control service across a wide range of sectors.
  • Strong commitment to providing excellent customer service and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Dedicated to maintaining the high standards of service delivery expected within our Building Control Team.

Our Building Control team is committed to delivering services as efficiently as possible. You will be required to travel around sites across the Borough where much of the team’s work is delivered. Applicants must hold a valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle. Reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled applicants where required.
