As a Special Constable, you can volunteer with us while maintaining your current job. This unique role offers you the chance to develop new skills, gain invaluable experience, and play a crucial part in keeping your community safe.
Special Constables are dedicated volunteer police officers with the same powers, uniform and responsibilities as regular officers. They dedicate their time to contribute to the wellbeing and safety of their community, work alongside regular officers and community partners to tackle crime, support victims and maintain public order – all while gaining hands on experience in policing.
Joining Northumbria Police as a Special Constable will help you to develop personally and professionally. You will be trained to the standard of our regular officers, and you’ll discover what you are truly capable of! There are no other volunteering opportunities like this one.

You’ll also be given the opportunity to attend extra training where you can specialise in areas such as Neighbourhood Policing and Motor Patrols.
