Job summary

The Travelers is seeking a technically strong Property & Casualty specialist to join our Business Insurance Underwriting Office as a Regional Underwriting Officer. You will lead regional underwriting strategies, mentor teams, and drive profitable growth in BI Retail across the UK.

You will coach colleagues through training and technical guidance, build broker relationships, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to maintain underwriting excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher education level.
• ACII qualification.
• Advanced level of proficiency in Property & Casualty Underwriting.

Responsibilities

• Implement and develop long and short term underwriting strategies regionally to position BI Retail products to market.
• Ensure underwriting controls, cures and audit are taken promptly.
• Advise as referral point to ensure product development aligns with profit and growth goals.
• Lead regional and national strategic planning to grow market presence and profitability.
• Develop broker/client relationships with visibility and influence within the market.
• Mentor and coach underwriting staff to ensure production and profitability targets.
• Coordinate with internal resources (Risk Control, Claims, Operations) for effective underwriting decisions.

What Is the Opportunity? We are looking for a technically strong Property & Casualty specialist to join our Business Insurance Underwriting Office team as a Regional Underwriting Officer. In this role you work with internal Underwriting teams to manage and implement underwriting standards across the UK. You'll build strong relationships with your Underwriting teams, using your expertise to act as a technical referral point. You'll coach and develop underwriting knowledge; supporting colleagues through training, courses, and technical guidance.

Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company's discretion.

What Will You Do?

• Implement and participate in the development of long and short term underwriting strategies to effectively position BI Retail, regionally traded products to market the right products, programs and/or services to the right market segment through responsible underwriting decisions.
• Ensure Underwriting Controls including Cures and Audit are taken and promptly acted upon.
• Participate as an advisor / referral point to achieve responsible product development to ensure it is consistent with profit, growth and retention strategies.
• Participate in the strategic business planning activities for BI Retail & Small business both regionally and nationally that are designed to increase the presence in the market; retain the appropriate mix of business; and achieve overall growth and profit goals.
• Assist with the development and leveraging of broker/client relationships through a high level of visibility.
• Work tactically with brokers to ensure they have an appropriate level of understating of BI Retail goals and objectives.
• Provide underwriting leadership at regular regional underwriting meetings as appropriate.
• Develop and ensure effective utilisation of detailed monitoring standards to assess underwriting results and propose solutions
• Analyse local market needs and trends as they impact the regions marketing initiatives and provide competitor information to product and portfolio management staff.
• In conjunction with regional and branch management effectively mentor and coach development underwriting staff to ensure production, underwriting standards and profitability objectives are achieved.
• Develop and maintain relationships with internal resources (i.e. Risk Control, Claims, Operations, etc.) to ensure effective operation of underwriting and marketing decisions.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree or higher education level.
• Previous proven track record of leading others at a senior underwriting level.
• Advanced level of proficiency required in the following.
