Job summary

Baily Garner LLP is seeking a Regional Building Services Engineer (MEP) to act as the technical anchor for our MEP discipline in the North. The role combines site intelligence, client strategy, and technical delivery across North-West and Yorkshire regions, reporting to the MEP Programme Manager and working with our Birmingham team.

The position is hybrid/field-based in Manchester or Leeds, with travel to sites across the North.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of Building Services Design experience with multi-disciplinary coordination.
• Field-based role with willingness to travel across the North and hold a UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead site appraisals and technical feasibility surveys.
• Act as MEP design lead in Northern project meetings with clients, architects and contractors.
• Bridge site challenges with design-office solutions to support Birmingham team.
• Conduct high-level technical reviews and site inspections to verify design intent.
• Manage information flow from initial site visit through to commissioning and handover.
• Be a core member of the national MEP team, collaborating with regional and Birmingham-based managers.

Job Title: Regional Building Services Engineer (MEP)

Following a period of strategic growth and the establishment of our Northern offices, we are seeking a highly skilled MEP professional to act as a key technical anchor for our projects across North-West and Yorkshire regions.

This is a bespoke, high-autonomy role designed for an engineer who excels in the 'front-end' of building services: site intelligence, client strategy, and technical delivery. You will be the primary technical face of our MEP discipline in the North, working as a strategic partner to our established Birmingham and London Design Hubs.

Unlike traditional design roles, this position focuses on the critical interface between the site, the client, and the design office. You will be the 'eyes and ears' on the ground, ensuring that the technical information feeding our design process is of the highest accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Information Gathering: Lead comprehensive site appraisals and technical feasibility surveys. You will translate complex as-built realities into clear, high-level briefs for our design team
• Client & Stakeholder Leadership: Act as the MEP design lead in Northern-based project meetings, providing expert technical advice to clients, architects, and contractors
• Design Liaison: Bridge the gap between site-based challenges and design-office solutions. You will be the technical translator ensuring the Birmingham team has everything they need to produce designs
• Construction Stage Monitoring: Conduct high-level technical reviews and periodic site inspections, to ensure onsite installation aligns with the design intent and Baily Garner's quality benchmarks
• Project Lifecycle Oversight: Manage the flow of information from initial site visit through to final commissioning and handover
• Management & Reporting Structure: While based in our Northern offices, you will be a core member of our national MEP team. You will be managed by the Birmingham-based MEP Programme Manager and working closely with our MEP Director on key client relationships and projects

Essential Skills

• You must have a robust background in Building Services Design (Mechanical or Electrical) with a deep understanding of multi-disciplinary coordination. Ideally 8 years of experience
• This is a highly mobile, field-based role requiring a proactive approach to regional travel. A full UK driving license and a willingness to travel are essential
• Exceptional ability to produce clear, professional site reports, sketches, and briefing documents that the design team can build from
• Technical gravitas to represent Baily Garner independently
• You can identify a site-based constraint and immediately visualise the potential design solutions

Desirable Attributes

• Chartered Status (CIBSE/IET/IMechE): Or working towards it
• Local Market Knowledge: Existing familiarity with the Northern construction landscape and contractor networks
• Multi-Disciplinary Awareness: An understanding of how MEP interacts with Architecture and Building Surveying
