Job summary

Avery Healthcare Group is seeking a Regional Maintenance Support Operative to provide essential maintenance cover across our care homes in the central region. The role is mobile, working across multiple sites to perform maintenance tasks, inspections, and minor repairs while ensuring safety, compliance, and high standards.

You will also support improvement projects, assist with planning and procurement, and help train new maintenance colleagues. A DBS check and UK work eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• Experience in general building maintenance or a trade-related environment.
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including COSHH.
• Practical skills across maintenance disciplines: plumbing, carpentry, decorating and electrical.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight stays.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Must pass DBS disclosure.
• Proof of eligibility to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Providing maintenance support across multiple care homes as required.
• Completing routine safety and compliance inspections, including checks on fire safety, water systems, emergency lighting, equipment, and other essential services.
• Carrying out general repairs and maintenance, including basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, decorating and building work.
• Training and supporting new maintenance colleagues in statutory checks and maintenance procedures.
• Communicating with Estates Managers regarding completed works, compliance requirements, and site updates.
• Assisting with refurbishment and improvement projects, including planning, risk assessments, and material procurement.
• Maintaining high standards of health and safety across all work activities.
• Managing company vehicle responsibilities, including basic upkeep and expense reporting.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a mobile role supporting care homes across the central region when local maintenance cover is unavailable. You'll work independently across a range of sites, carrying out maintenance tasks, compliance checks, and minor repairs while ensuring our homes remain safe, compliant, and well-maintained. When maintenance cover is not required, you'll support property improvement projects, helping to deliver upgrades and enhancements across our portfolio of care homes.

We're looking for someone who is practical, reliable, and confident working independently across multiple locations. You will have:

• Experience in general building maintenance or a trade‑related environment.


• Working knowledge of health and safety procedures, including manual handling and COSHH.


• Practical skills across a range of maintenance disciplines such as plumbing, carpentry, decorating and basic electrical work.


• Excellent organisational and communication skills.


• A flexible approach and willingness to travel extensive, including occasional overnight stays.


• The ability to prioritise tasks and work on own initiative.


• A full UK driving licence.
