Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Regional Director - Fire Engineering to lead a UK-based fire engineering team on large, complex projects. The role focuses on client delivery, regulatory compliance, and cross-disciplinary leadership across national projects.

Ideal candidates will have extensive UK fire engineering experience, professional accreditation, and a track record in business development and staff mentorship toward Chartership. Hybrid working options are available within a flexible national framework.

Qualifications

  • Experience on fire engineering projects in the UK.
  • Proven multi-disciplinary delivery capability.
  • Knowledge of UK guidance and standards (ADB, BS 9991/9999/9992, HTM 05-02, BB100).
  • Proficiency with fire engineering tools such as FDS, SFE, and evacuation modelling software.
  • Membership in professional institutions (e.g., MIFireE) and/or certifications (e.g., NFPA CFPE).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the team in terms of workload management, project delivery and performance.
  • Oversee delivery of large, complex projects meeting regulatory requirements and client expectations.
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline teams and national leadership to ensure timely delivery and quality.
  • Lead the Performance & Review process for the team and set SMART goals.
  • Carry out staff appraisals and ensure reports perform similarly for their reports.
  • Develop professional development plans and encourage cross-sector expertise.
  • Provide mentoring to reach Chartership and technical goals.
  • Provide specialized technical input to studies and design projects across the portfolio.
  • Support and mentor less experienced staff toward Chartership.
  • Lead client relationships and contribute to winning new work.

Overview

AECOM is seeking a Regional Director - Fire Engineering. This is a consultancy-based role requiring demonstrable experience across sectors and client-focused delivery in fire engineering.

Responsibilities
People
  • Lead and manage the team in terms of workload management, project delivery and performance.
  • Oversee the successful delivery of large, complex projects, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and client expectations.
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline teams and national leadership to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and to a high standard of quality.
  • Lead the Performance & Review process for the team by setting and monitoring SMART goals for team members.
  • Carry out staff appraisals and ensure direct reports perform similarly for their reports in line with the Performance & Review process.
  • Participate in developing professional development plans for staff and encourage expansion of expertise across sectors.
  • Assist in training and mentoring to meet technical development goals in line with PDPs.
  • Provide specialized technical input to studies and design projects across the portfolio.
  • Support and mentor less experienced staff on the path to Chartership.
Projects
  • Provide estimates for fire engineering budgets and schedules on large, complex projects.
  • Lead project delivery on mid to large size projects nationally and internationally.
  • Lead strategic direction as an AECOM Approved Lead Verifier and act as project approver.
  • Lead technical client relationships and play a major role in attracting new work and clients.
  • Ensure work quality and timely delivery within agreed periods and budgets.
Business
  • Ensure implementation of AECOM Health & Safety policies in the workplace and during off-site activities.
  • Maintain good client working relationships.
  • Promote the Fire Engineering business and contribute to growth by attracting internal and external clients.
  • Support the national team in achieving KPIs.
  • Develop and support recruitment strategies and business plans for national fire teams.
  • Assist in implementing marketing strategies focused on collaborative client communication.
  • Contribute to the Fire Team Business Plan and implement it across the team.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Experience in working on fire engineering projects in the UK.
  • Extensive experience in a large, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK guidance and standards (e.g., ADB, BS 9991/9999/9992, HTM 05-02, BB100).
  • Proficiency with fire engineering tools such as FDS, SFE, and evacuation modelling software.
  • Membership in relevant professional institutions (e.g., MIFireE) and/or certifications (e.g., NFPA CFPE).

Preferred requirements:

  • UK or other nationalities; security clearance.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Institution of Fire Engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge of FDS, evacuation modelling, and structural fire safety engineering.
  • MSc or PhD in a fire-related field.
  • International experience with standards such as IBC, SFPE and NFPA.
