Job summary

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking Peer Support Workers to join its Community Mental Health Team. The role uses your lived experience to support others on their recovery journey, building hope, resilience and wellbeing through empathetic and practical support.

You will work alongside clinicians and other professionals to help service users access community resources and achieve their goals, in a recovery-oriented, person-centred approach.

Qualifications

• Level 4 Peer Support accredited training or commitment to work towards.
• Desirable: training for lived experience practitioners.
• Desirable: evidence of further related training.
• Desirable: health-related qualification.
• Desirable: Recovery college qualification.
• Essential: personal lived experience of mental health distress.
• Essential: basic understanding of Peer Support.
• Essential: ability to support others in a recovery-orientated way.
• Essential: good motivational techniques and abilities.
• Essential: planning, decision-making and organisation.
• Essential: confidentiality and sensitive information handling.
• Essential: ICT/computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Offer empathy and understanding to others to inspire hope and recovery.
• Provide empathetic support alongside practical assistance.
• Promote choice, self-determination and social connection.
• Act as recovery champion within the team and with external agencies.
• Support personal and professional development of peers within the Trust.
