Job Summary

At Briercliffe Surgery we have an exciting opportunity for a receptionist / administrator to join the team.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the smooth running of the practice and reception area, projecting a positive image to patients and professionals.
  • Act as the first point of contact for anyone accessing the practice, both in person and by telephone.
  • Facilitate patients accessing the clinical care provided by the practice and support GPs and nurses.
  • Manage patient flow at the reception desk, including appointments, prescriptions, or queries.
  • Ensure new patient registrations are completed daily and repeat prescriptions and e‑prescriptions are generated accurately within the 48‑hour time‑frame.
  • Use Care Navigation templates and coding protocols to place patients with the appropriate clinician or service.
  • Review and record all incoming correspondence and patient information in the electronic medical record.
  • Carry out administrative tasks delegated by the Clinical Lead and Practice Manager.
  • Learn and apply new skills such as medical coding, insurance, private work completion and secretarial responsibilities.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Essential Experience: Significant previous experience in an NHS patient‑facing environment.
  • Desirable Experience: Working knowledge of EMIS Web; experience in a GP practice and on a reception desk; familiarity with medical terminology and coding.
  • Essential Skills: Good communicator with a pleasant manner; excellent customer‑service skills; aptitude for clerical systems and IT competency; accurate and efficient worker.
  • Qualifications: Good level of education to GCSE standard or equivalent.
  • Personal Attributes: Ability to remain calm under stress, keen to work as a team member, flexible and adaptable, well‑organised and hardworking.
