Job summary

GoodPeople is seeking a Mobile Chemist to manage the safe assessment, collection and transportation of hazardous waste from customer sites to approved facilities around Wolverhampton. This field-based, customer-facing role combines chemistry knowledge with driving and on-site waste handling.

You will identify, label and package hazardous waste in line with UK legislation, prepare documentation and ensure safe loading, transport and unloading. Independent, compliant work is essential.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HND in Chemistry or another relevant science subject.
  • Good technical knowledge of hazardous waste and its safe handling.
  • Experience working within applicable health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Sound understanding of COSHH and hazardous-material risk assessment.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience driving a 3.5-tonne van.
  • Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Confidence communicating with customers and internal teams.
  • Ability to complete accurate technical and compliance documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Visit customer sites to assess, segregate, label and package hazardous waste.
  • Ensure waste is packaged safely and suitable for transportation.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate hazardous waste documentation.
  • Compile lists of waste requiring collection and disposal.
  • Organise collections from customer sites and deliveries to authorised waste facilities.
  • Safely load and unload waste using appropriate material-handling equipment.
  • Drive a company vehicle to transport waste for disposal.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of packaging materials at customer sites.
  • Support small collections and administration teams with customer quotations.
  • Communicate collection details and documentation requirements clearly to internal teams.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with customers.
  • Follow relevant hazardous waste, transport and environmental legislation.
  • Comply with health and safety procedures at customer and waste disposal sites.
  • Assess the potential safety, environmental and operational impact of hazardous materials.
  • Work independently while escalating risks or compliance concerns appropriately.

About the Role

A growing business within the waste and resource recovery sector is looking for a Mobile Chemist to manage the safe assessment, collection and transportation of hazardous waste from customer sites to authorised waste facilities.

This is a practical, customer-facing role combining technical chemistry knowledge with driving and on-site waste handling. You will identify, segregate, label and package hazardous waste in line with current UK legislation, prepare the required documentation and ensure waste is safely loaded, transported and unloaded.

The role would suit someone who can work independently, make sound safety decisions and maintain high standards of compliance.

Based around Wolverhampton with regular travel to customer sites

£32,000 - £35,000 per year

What We're Looking For
