Job summary

Royal Mail in Bristol is seeking an IMI Level 3 qualified Mechanic for a permanent Vehicle Technician role in our Bristol Workshop. The position offers a base salary of £39,715 p.a. plus a night shift allowance and overtime potential up to £60k, with rotating three-week shifts and a 39.5-hour week.

You will inspect, diagnose, maintain and repair a wide range of vehicles, using your own toolkit with access to modern workshops and PPE. Progression and training are supported.

Qualifications

  • IMI Level 3 qualification in Light or Heavy vehicles is required.
  • Proven Vehicle Technician experience on a wide range of vehicles, e.g., HGV.
  • Full UK manual driving licence.
  • Flexible to service demands and shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, diagnostics, maintenance and repairs on a range of vehicles and equipment.
  • Use your own toolkit for routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Access to specialist tooling in modern, fully equipped workshops.

We're recruiting an IMI Level 3 qualified mechanic at Bristol Workshop on a Permanent contract, with the potential to earn up to £50-60k including overtime.

Salary: £39,715 per annum plus a night shift allowance of £571.27 per month

A Saturday attendance supplement of £52.10 is paid every third week.

Working Hours: Full time

- 39.5 hours per week (excluding meal breaks). The role operates on a rotating three week shift pattern; Week 1 Monday to Thursday: 21:00 - 06:00 Friday: 20:30 - midnight | Week 2 Monday to Thursday: 21:00 - 06:00 Friday: 20:30 - midnight | Week 3 Monday to Thursday: 21:30 - 06:00 Friday: 22:30 - 06:00 (finishing Saturday morning).

Our shift patterns may change over time as our operational needs develop, so we're looking for someone who can be flexible when required.

A bit about the role

With a fleet of over 49,000 vehicles, including traditional fuel and electric vehicles, LCVs and HGVs, maintaining our vehicles is a true team effort.   • You’ll perform a full range of inspections, diagnostic, maintenance, and repair procedures on a range of vehicles, trailers, and mechanical equipment.
  • You’ll use your own personal toolkit to undertake routine maintenance and repair light / heavy goods vehicles.
  • You’ll also have access to specialist tooling and shared equipment in our modern, fully equipped workshops.
A bit about you
  • Qualified mechanic: you're fully qualified to an advanced level (IMI Level 3 in Light or Heavy vehicle or equivalent). You've got your own toolkit for standard repairs.
  • Varied vehicle experience: Proven Vehicle Technician experience working on a wide range of vehicles, for exampleHGV.
  • Valid UK driving licence: You hold a full manual UK driving licence, preferably an HGV licence with trailer experience.
  • High working standards: you take pride in your work and do what is necessary to make sure the job is done effectively.
  • Flexible to service demands: you're able to work on a flexible shift rota. You're always willing to support your team where necessary.
