Job summary

UK Docks Marine Services in Tees Valley is seeking an experienced lifting operations operative to inspect, prepare and move heavy loads within the shipyard using overhead, mobile, gantry cranes and hoists. You will select equipment per lifting plans and risk assessments, inspect gear before use, and ensure safe balance and stability of loads.

Effective communication with crane operators, attention to confined spaces and height safety, and strict PPE adherence are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience with heavy lifting operations and crane-based assemblies.
• Ability to read method statements, lifting plans and risk assessments.
• Ability to inspect equipment before use and report defects.
• Strong focus on safety and PPE compliance.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and prepare loads for movement within the shipyard.

Job description

Inspect and prepare heavy loads that need to be moved within the shipyard environment using overhead cranes, mobile cranes, gantries and hoists.

Select and assemble the appropriate lifting equipment in accordance with method statements, lifting plans and risk assessments at all times.

Inspect lifting equipment before use and report any defects or damage immediately.

Attach and detach loads safely, ensuring correct balance and stability.

Use clear methods of communication with crane operators, for example use of standard hand signals or radio communication.

Assist in the positioning of loads accurately during lifting, moving, and installation operations

Maintain safe working practices in confined spaces, at height, and around operational production areas.

Maintain good housekeeping standards throughout and after job completion.

Proactively identify and report near misses, incidents or unsafe conditions and stopping work where any lifting operation is deemed unsafe.

Comply with all site health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures including correct use of PPE at all times.

Support vessel construction, repair, refit, or dismantling activities as required.
