Job summary

AWD online is seeking a Control Systems Engineer / PLC Programmer to design, implement and support advanced control systems across a variety of electrical applications. The role requires hands-on PLC programming and HMI/SCADA expertise, with travel across the UK for on-site activities.

You will work with project teams to deliver solutions on time and within budget, leveraging experience with multiple PLC platforms and industrial communication protocols.

Qualifications

• Higher education in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience in industrial automation sector.
• Experience with PLC programming on major platforms.
• Experience with HMI/SCADA software such as Wonderware or FactoryTalk View.
• Strong control system design and development knowledge.
• Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus).

Working across office, manufacturing and customer sites, the Control Systems Engineer / PLC Programmer will apply PLC, HMI/SCADA and controls expertise to a range of electrical applications.

UK travel gives the Control Systems Engineer / PLC Programmer exposure to on-site activities and varied project environments.

DUTIES

• Control System Design and Development: Design, implement and support control systems for a variety of electrical applications
• PLC Programming: Develop and support PLC solutions using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens or equivalent platforms
• HMI/SCADA Solutions: Develop and support HMI/SCADA software using Wonderware, FactoryTalk View or equivalent systems
• Project Collaboration: Work closely with project teams to help deliver solutions effectively, on time and within budget
• On-Site Support: Travel across the UK to support on-site activities

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

• Higher education qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Previous experience within the industrial automation sector
• Experience with PLC programming using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens or equivalent
• Experience with HMI/SCADA software such as Wonderware, FactoryTalk View or equivalent
• Demonstrated expertise in control system design and development
• Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus or equivalent
• Ability to confidently read electrical schematic diagrams
• Ability to work effectively within a team and communicate ideas clearly

DESIRABLE

• Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Experience with canning lines used by organisations such as Ball Packaging, Ardagh, Sonoco or Crown
