Job description

Salary: £33,000 per annum, plus staff benefits

Lowry is an internationally acclaimed cultural landmark situated at the heart of MediaCityUK, one of the world’s most exciting culture and media destinations.

Join us in a landmark new exhibition and curatorial role that signals Lowry’s deepening commitment to placing families at the heart of its visual arts offer. Building on the huge success of our free blockbuster family exhibitions such as Julia & Axel; Quentin Blake and Me; and Queens, this post will shape and deliver a new era of creative visual arts programming for young audiences and their families.

You’ll work alongside a small team and play a leading role in devising imaginative, ambitious and cross-disciplinary exhibitions and experiences that reflect Lowry’s distinctive position at the intersection of visual arts, performance and engagement. Collaborating across departments, you’ll work with artists, gallerists, curators, performers and others to create and co-create family content in Lowry’s galleries and beyond.

This strategic post places visual arts for families on an equal footing with our most celebrated programmes – recognising its power to inspire, to foster creativity, to connect generations, to open up conversations, and help dismantle cultural and structural barriers to participation.

You will join Lowry at a moment of real momentum and transformation. This role will help shape future programming across our new digital immersive gallery, public spaces, and wider city-region partnerships. You’ll be part of a pioneering team that is actively rethinking how families encounter and help shape art – and how visual culture can play a vital role in supporting creative lives from the earliest years onwards.

Lowry is the most visited cultural attraction in Greater Manchester. Our audiences are broad, intergenerational and diverse. We are committed to access, relevance and joy – and to making Salford one of the most exciting places in the UK to grow up creatively. This role is central to that vision.

The role has a number of staff benefits including:

Complimentary and discounted theatre and live event tickets

Free car parking just a few minutes’ walk from the Lowry building

Paid day off for your birthday

Discounts at the bars, restaurant and gift shop located within the Lowry building

Access to Lowry’s Wellbeing Hub and to other health and wellbeing services, including counselling, physiotherapy and remote GP appointments

Group Life Assurance Scheme

MediaCityUK is a well-connected destination with a variety of different transport options – bus, car, tram and bike.

The application deadline for this vacancy is 30 September 2026 at 10am.

Interviews will be on 15 October 2026, with second interviews provisionally
