Job summary

Expanse Learning in Orrell is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Officer to support SEND students and promote wellbeing. You will collaborate with students, staff and families to ensure pupils feel valued and empowered to reach their potential.

The role involves safeguarding duties, risk assessments, and contributing to personalised plans. The ideal candidate is empathetic, well-organised and able to work across multiple sites, with enhanced DBS clearance and a valid UK driving licence.

Qualifications

  • Relevant Qualification associated with Pastoral Officer or relevant position
  • 2+ years’ experience in pastoral/education support
  • Outstanding organisational and time-management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Office 365 (Word/Excel)
  • Experience in admissions or referral environment
  • Qualified or working towards Care Cert or DSO L2
  • Experience in SEN settings and annual review processes

Responsibilities

The Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out the duties of the Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) role
  • Responsible for Tier 1 Safeguarding alerts
  • Responsible for in house lower-level incidents
  • Support the DSL with Tier 2/3 safeguarding incidents
  • Attend Safeguarding strategy and professionals’ meetings for CIN and CLA representing Expanse Learning
  • Coordinate the initial assessment process and update the multi-disciplinary assessment document working closely with the EHCP Coordinator in preparation for the panel
  • Arrange and conduct visits to college
  • Liaison with parents and professionals on all pastoral matters
  • Carry out risk assessments of all students
  • Support Head of Learner Support to complete student care plans
  • Work in partnership with the Tutors, TAs and LSAs to contribute to the Behavioural Observation Charts (BOCs) and the personalised curriculum
  • Contribute to the student profile
  • Monitor, Audit and review the Medication Administration Recording System (MARS).
  • Complete referrals into social care and health
  • Provide information to support the annual review process (A4)
  • Additional duties to include delivering training i.e., manual handling, behavioural management, train the trainer
Your Qualifications / Skills & Knowledge
  • Relevant Qualification associated with Pastoral Officer or relevant position
  • 2+ years’ experience
  • Outstanding organisational and time-management skills
  • excellent knowledge of Office 365 (including Word and Excel)
  • Previous experience working in an admissions or referral environment
  • Qualification/experience required
  • Qualified or working towards Care Cert
  • Qualified or working towards DSO L2
  • Specific on the job training
  • Specific client needs training
  • Proven experience within Pastoral support or similar SEN position
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills and in depth understanding of diverse computer systems and networks
  • Good knowledge of Data Protection and data privacy principles (GDPR)
  • the ability to prioritise, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • the ability to work alone or as part of a team
  • Awareness of the SEND code of Practice.
  • Experience in the education, not-for-profit, or SEND sector.
  • Knowledge of Ofsted and/or ESFA expectations.
  • Experience working within the Annual Review Process
Additional Information:
  • Travel to multiple sites will be required.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be needed to support key events.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance is required for this role.
  • The successful candidate must have a full UK driving licence, access to a car, and business use insurance.
