Job summary

Salutem Care and Education is dedicated to protecting and promoting the well-being of children and vulnerable individuals. We seek compassionate staff in Manchester to support residents with learning and physical disabilities through person-centred activities and collaborative care planning.

You will help individuals develop skills, maintain safety, and participate in inclusive activities, with ongoing training, supervision, and a strong focus on safeguarding and respectful, dignified care.

Qualifications

  • Experience in disability support and understanding of learning or physical disabilities.
  • NVQ / Diploma in Health & Social Care training.
  • Knowledge of inclusive activities and safeguarding policies.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with support workers to facilitate individual participation in activities.
  • Plan and implement person-centred activity programs tailored to each individual.
  • Understand each resident’s needs, including health, well-being and personal care requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Contribute to high-quality service through induction, supervision and teamwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your line manager or senior.

About The Role
Job Responsibilities
Support Staff with Activities:
  • Collaborate with support workers to facilitate individual participation in activities.
  • Provide guidance and resources to staff, ensuring they are equipped to support individuals effectively.
Plan and Implement Person-Centered Activity Programs:
  • Develop and organize activities that are tailored to the interests and abilities of each individual.
  • Continuously assess and adapt programs to meet changing needs and preferences.
  • Ensure all activities are inclusive and accessible to everyone.
Understand Individual Needs:
  • Gain a deep understanding of everyone’s needs, including their skill development, health, well-being, and personal care requirements.
  • Use this understanding to create meaningful and engaging activities that promote personal growth and enjoyment.
Maintain Accurate Documentation:
  • Keep all records and documentation related to activities up to date and accurate.
  • Ensure compliance with all organizational policies and procedures regarding documentation.
Contribute to High-Quality Service Provision:
  • Participate in an induction program and ongoing training opportunities.
  • Engage in regular supervision and contribute to team meetings.
  • Uphold the values of respect and inclusivity towards individuals, their families, colleagues, and the public.
  • Consider the diverse backgrounds and needs of individuals, including age, gender, ethnicity, religion, abilities, and personal preferences.
  • Adhere to policies and maintain a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for everyone.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by your line manager or senior
Communication Skills
1. Ability to adapt communication to different needs (e.g. simple language, visual aids, non-verbal cues)
  • Understanding of alternative communication methods such as Makaton or Picture Exchange Communication System
  • Patience when supporting individuals who may take longer to express themselves

  • Tailoring activities to each resident’s abilities, interests, and support needs

3. Understanding of Learning & Physical Disabilities
  • Awareness of conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or Cerebral Palsy

  • Modifying activities so everyone can participate
  • Using sensory activities, music, movement, or tactile materials

  • Protecting vulnerable individuals from harm
  • Understanding safeguarding policies and reporting concerns
6. Teamwork
  • Working alongside carers, therapists, and support staff
  • Sharing observations about residents’ wellbeing and engagement
7. Health & Safety Awareness
  • Safe moving and handling practices
  • Risk assessing activities for people with mobility or health needs
1. Experience in Disability Support
  • Previous work with individuals with learning or physical disabilities
  • Experience supporting communication or behavioural needs
  • NVQ / Diploma in Health & Social Care
  • Training in disability support, behaviour management, or activity coordination
3. Knowledge of Inclusive Activities
  • Designing activities that are accessible for all abilities
  • Understanding sensory play and therapeutic activities
  • Recording participation and progress
  • Using care planning systems
  • Encouraging participation in a supportive way
  • Building confidence and self-esteem in residents
